Weekly Skinny: September 30th

After 10 days of stress, sinus infections, raging migraines, and meetings I think I'm finally back on my daily schedule. I've been really stressed these past few days and frankly, the blog just wasn't at the top of my priorities list. My three day bedrest from the world's worst migraine didn't really help me either. Today I'm back to share with you some of my favorites from this past week...some of the most positive things that pulled me though my rough last few days. That 70's Show -- How did I not know about this show until last week. I know everyone has already seen it but for those who are like me, and have seen it on Netflix but never had a desire to watch it...stop what you're doing an

Fall Trends at Target

I've mentioned my love-hate relationship with Target clothes before. Over the past few years, it has been so difficult to find cute, trendy, and youthful clothes at Target. Their shoes have always been right on the mark for me, and even their jewelry has kept me happy these past years but I can never really get into Target clothes. I feel like sometimes the designers just add way too much of a good thing. Either too many ruffles, to much print, too much fringe, or too many embellishments. Despite my struggles with Target clothing, they have impressed me with these new collections that they keep releasing. I loved the Victoria Beckham collection they did back in Spring and I'm really enjoying

Daily Dose Cooks: Garlic & Herb Chicken

I really enjoyed writing about my adventures in the kitchen the other day and from the feedback I received, it seemed like you all liked it too. Like I mentioned in my post the other day, I am using this series as a place to not only document my favorite easy meals, but also a way to share what I learn in the kitchen with all of the other ladies starting off in the kitchen too. I know there are so many readers of Daily Dose of Prep who live on their own, cook for themselves, and literally have no clue where to start. Trust me, I'm still very new to cooking but as I spend more time in the kitchen I am starting to realize how fun cooking can be, and that I'm not half bad at it. My mom is a rea

Current Obsessions: September 27

I love sharing my new faves in fashion and today I'm back with six of my favorites I have stumbled across these past few weeks on Instagram and the internet. A few are a little trendier than most would imagine, but my style is growing and aging with me. I am and (imagine) I will always be classically preppy, but I am excited to experiment with some trendier pieces as the seasons change. I have so been enjoying the autumnal hues that have come along this season. The leaves are starting to change and so are everyone's closets. I have already pulled forward my vests and sweaters, despite it still being in the low 80's here in Virginia. I am also planning on going home pretty soon to grab a few

Daily Dose Cooks

One of my biggest challenges I have had since coming to school has been cooking meals for myself. Everything from portion control, to meal-prep, grocery shopping, and then cooking the meals themselves. I am no chef and whenever I would have to cook dinner for myself in high school I would always resort to ordering food or heating up a frozen dinner. As an almost twenty year old, I can't keep eating Lean Cuisine meals. College is the time to experiment with cooking and try to figure out which meals you like and what you enjoy cooking so when you're a full fledged adult, you don't have to worry about learning to cook. This new blog series "Daily Dose Cooks" is the result of my current cooking

Sophomore Studies with Graphique de France

If I don't have an organized and colorful study space, I can't get anything done. Everything at my desk needs a place and I should also be able to feel invited and welcome to my desk space. I am teaming up with Graphique de France an adorable gift and stationary site that helped me ornament my desk in my apartment. I will say, my desk situation this year is much better than it was last year. It's nice to not have to study underneath of my lofted bed anymore. Having my own space as a sophomore has been such a gift. I really enjoyed working with Graphique de France. They have items for every style and in every color. You will definitely find something for you on their website. They were extrem

Preppy in Plaid

This post is one that I posted last year but I get so many questions about it still, that I thought it would be a good idea to repost the pictures and do an update on where you can recreate this outfit. When I posted this outfit almost exactly a year ago, I never thought that I would still be a relevant post. I guess the caramel Polo sweater and the black watch plaid hat is so classic prep that it pulls a lot of people in. One of the pictures from this outfit post has thousands and thousands of repins and had been featured on a few "how to dress prep" articles from earlier this season. This outfit was super easy to pull together. First, I styled my Old Navy skinny jeans, a pair of gingham tr

Fall Bucket List

Fall is such a great season. The changing of the leaves is one of my most favorite things. It's so beautiful and reminds me that things are changing. It reminds me that life is never stagnant, no matter what we are all always changing and time is fleeting. Fall reminds me that whatever state of mind I'm in, stressed, or worried, or confused I know that it will pass like the season. I also love Fall because it's when God's work truly comes out. Never does nature look as magical and beautiful than it does during Autumn. The crisp air, the chilly mornings, the marbled and vibrant leaves, and the wildlife that comes out during the season. I love seeing the geese fly south and and hear owls at ni

A College Girl's Grocery List

I never anticipated how difficult it would be to create a grocery list tailored to my taste palette and schedule. I am no chef, not anywhere close but when I came to school and had to go grocery shopping for the first time, I was so overwhelmed. The first thing that overwhelmed me was that I had to cook meals for myself -- not ramen, not instant mashed potatoes -- meals. I was tough for me to learn how to pick out good fruit and understand which brands are good to trust and which to avoid. I also didn't anticipate all of the extra things that it you have to buy in order to have a functioning kitchen. Things like Pam cooking spray, Ziploc bags, aluminum foil, and salt and pepper are all thing

Weekly Skinny: September 14th

This week's weekly skinny is a little scarce due to the lack of time that I have been on the internet due to my busy week these past few days. There are a few really great things though that I am so excited to share with you. It's so nice to be getting back into my weekly schedule and back to work. If there is anything you you have been loving this week, feel free to share in the comments below! J. Crew Fall Arrivals -- J. Crew just released new Fall arrivals yesterday and they're so. stinking. cute. The collection is full of stripes, Fall hues, sweaters, and tartan plaids. Also, J .Crew decided to release the cutest line of coats in this collection. I need to buy this mock turtleneck, this

Recruitment Recap & Photos

Well, hello there. Long time, no blog. I know, I know. I've been horrible these past few days but if I'm being frank, recruitment took over my life and now I'm trying to catch up on everything. School work, shifts at the library, and the blog sadly had to take a backseat for these past five days. I knew all year that these five days would be super hectic but I really underestimated people when they said that. Recruitment is unlike anything I have ever experienced, especially when it's on the other side. It was five long, tiresome days of talking, chatting, waiting, sitting, early mornings and late nights but it was all worth it when we got to meet our new Alpha class yesterday evening. We ca

Recruitment Round 1: Open House

We just had the first day of open house round of recruitment yesterday. It was such a blast meeting some of the new PNM's and getting to chat with them. We went through six rounds of meeting girls yesterday and today we will have another eight. There are so many girls to meet that we have to split the round up into two days. I didn't think that door chanting would take so much out of me but when I woke up this morning, I didn't have a voice and my legs were so sore -- a definite indicator that I need to go to the gym! For open house, our outfits are really casual but still super cute. We wore a green Bella tee shirt with our recruitment theme on it, white bottoms ( I went with J. Crew shorts

Weekly Skinny: September 6th

It's been a pretty busy week and we're only half way through it. Due to panhellenic recruitment starting tomorrow evening, the sorority has had meetings for the past week in preparation for the new PNM's. Ever moment that I'm not in class or at a meeting I have been using it to write blog posts, making Quizlets, or reading. There hasn't been much time for anything else. Although I have been running around campus these past few days like a crazy woman, I have had enough time to catch up the latest fashion and trends and also read up on some fun new articles. Like every Wednesday, it's my time to share this weeks skinny with you. If you have something you are enjoying make sure to leave that d

28 Under $30

Fall fashion is my favorite out of the entire year but for a college girl, the shopping seasons falls at the worst time. Even though I want to shop for new clothes, I have to buy books, pay for utilities, groceries, sorority dues etc. I know that so many of my readers are also budget shoppers and love a good deal when they find one. I always hate it when bloggers share nothing buy uber expensive clothing that the average consumer can't always afford...it's nice to know that you can shop everything in one post because it's specifically tailored to those who shop on a budget. These 28 items are from all different sites and range from classic to very trendy pieces. This season, blush and crisp

Life Update: How's Sophomore Year

I have been at JMU for my sophomore year for a week now and I can already tell I am in for 16 weeks of long days, late nights, and tons of study hours. I got to live stream for the first time in forever the other day, and even though I was only on for about 20 minutes, the most asked question was how is everything going at school. For those who missed the live stream or those who are very curious to read about my school year so far, here is a general run down of how the past week has gone and what the rest of the semester is going to look like. I am taking six classes this semester, one of them is a connecting lab to my intro to communications course though. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Frida

How to Have a Successful Job Interview

As we all grow up and enter into our young adult and adult lives, we all come to terms with the fact that our childhood is over the we need to get a job. Some people are fortunate where they don't have to work until right after college, some get jobs in college, and others feel the pressure to get a job while still in high school. No matter what the timing may be, the day will come where we need to start interviewing for jobs. First, I want to talk about how great having a job is. I have had a job since my sophomore year of high school and there are so many benefits of holding a position. First and most obvious, money. It's nice to not have to rely on anyone or anything else when it comes t

3 Outfits Perfect for College & High School

Daily Dose of Prep attracts a pretty wide audience but the biggest age range of readers is 15-25 which means the majority of my audience is still in school whether it be high school or college. I often get asked to share some of my favorite things to wear to school and for the most part, I share my outfit of the day on Instagram story but I sometimes forget to share where everything is from. My closet really has everything in it; there are nicer clothes for presentations, casual cute clothes that make me look presentable yet comfy, and then some athleisure too. Sometimes I will roll out of bed, throw on a t-shirt and leggings and go, but most days I choose (or at least try) to put together a
