What I Learned In 2017

We did it y'all, we made it to the New Years Eve. 365 days ago we were looking back at 2016 anticipating all that 2017 had in store for us. Yeah, a lot of crap happened this year. Let's not dive into it. Both globally, communally, and personally, we can all say that these past 365 days probably had some downs to them. Let's face it though -- we had great days this year. We met interesting people, accomplished exciting things, made great memories, and achieved goals we set for ourselves almost an entire revolution-around-the sun ago #GoUs! Whether I had positive or negative experiences this year, I can happily say that twenty seventeen was a year of life lessons, personal growth, and personal

All That Glitters on New Years Eve

There is only one acceptable thing to wear on New Years Eve and that's glitter. I love wearing sparkles and sequins during the holidays and it feels like NYE is the home stretch of the season. Why not go out of 2017 and into 2018 looking fabulous? This pair of sequin pants are my favorite to wear to any sort of formal event. I love being a little different while still dressing up for the occasion. I've styled these pants at JMU for date functions, in New York City for a night on the town, and now for New Years Eve. These were purchased years ago from Forever 21 but, you can find similar pairs all over the internet. I linked my favorite sparkly items below. I styled these pants with a sleek a

What I Received for Christmas 2017

Sadly, as we unwrapped Christmas gifts, the season itself wrapped up. I'm sad to say that we have to wait eleven months for Christmas music to play again and soon will have to take down our trees and wreaths. There are two good things about the post-holiday season and that's sales and "what I got for Christmas" hauls. I'm not super speedy and didn't feel the need to share at 10am on Christmas morning, but nonetheless, I am happy to share with you what I was given for Christmas. Christmas in the Smith house has transferred from a quick morning of unwrapping to a lazy late morning of brunch and laughter. We started off the morning with a fabulous and delicious brunch of way too many carbs. Cas

Top 10 Blog Posts of 2017

Wait, what? 2017 is almost over?! I seriously cannot believe how quickly this year has gone by. So much has happened over the past 365(ish) days, it's hard to remember everything. I am going to recap on the year as a whole as we get closer to 2018 but today I want to share my top ten blog posts of this past year. 2017 was a great year of blogging for me. I upped my posting game to every single (ish) day and was really happy with the growth I saw. We gained almost 10,000 followers on Instagram and grew substantially in email subscribers, YouTube subscribers, Snapchat friends, and Twitter followers. Although I am still waiting not so patiently in the edge of my seat to hit 20K on Instagram, I

Today I am sharing my favorite items for Christmas Eve outfits. From the items linked, you can really create casual or formal looks to fit your perfect occasion. I love a classic black heel with almost everything linked but if you want t

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Last weekend Harrisonburg experienced it's first snowfall of the year. It happened in the middle of finals weekend which gave my friend, Erin, and I a great excuse for a study break. JMU has a great arboretum owned by the school itself, almost like our little botanical gardens up at JMU. With the new fallen snow, the entire garden was transformed into a winter wonderland. Even the pond was frozen over, despite the fact that only three inches of snow fell. I wanted to take some pictures with the beautiful garden as my backdrop. In this outfit I am wearing a black and white stripe tissue turtleneck from J. Crew, and an embroidered jeweled black sweatshirt also from J. Crew. My skirt is probabl

A Christmas Party for the Ages

What an incredible weekend. I am truly blessed for all of the people in my life and all of the gifts that I have. These past few days have been absolutely incredible and are the definition of what the holiday spirit is all about. Surrounded my hundreds of friends, family, and loved ones I cannot be anymore grateful than I already am. For me, weekends start off on Fridays. Even if I have work to do, Friday always is a time to wind down and just relax. The morning of the 15th I awoke to my entire house full of sweet smells. My mom was baking desserts for our Christmas party and spent all morning whipping up delicious treats. I helped her for a few hours before heading off to work at Lilly Puli

Gift Guide for Mom

Less than two weeks until Christmas and almost all of us are still scrambling trying to find the perfect gift for all of our loved ones. You cannot forget about the most important person to shop for, mom! You momma does so much for you and truthfully her job is oftentimes, thankless. Use this holiday to show your gratitude for her. Shopping for your mom can be so difficult. If she's anything like my mom then she slips in what she likes into the smallest conversations or insists that she receives nothing on her birthday and Christmas. We love to spoil the matriarchs of our family and sometimes, picking out the perfect gift can be a much bigger task than we anticipate. I rounded up some incred

O Christmas Tree

I went exploring the local Christmas tree farm this past weekend with my friend Erin and it was so magical, I just have to share it with you! Every Soul Acres is located in Keezletown, VA and is the total experience when it comes to picking your Christmas tree. You pick it, cut it, and take it home. You can purchase hand made wreathes and sip on homemade hot chocolate while shopping for your perfect tree. It was a great way to spend an hour or so on Monday. With the snow clinging to beautifully to the branches, the scene was a true winter wonderland. To the tree farm I wore my KJP Cozy Cabin flannel layered with a cashmere turtleneck from Ann Taylor. For a fun and flirty touch, I went with a

Weekly Skinny

Another Monday, another week to make great things happen. Despite the fact that virtually everyone in college is enduring finals right now, I'm feeling good. A lot of work is going on in University libraries all over the country but y'all we can do this, Christmas break is almost here! On a different note, JMU received it's first snow of the year this past weekend and it was beyond beautiful. It was perfect for keeping me trapped in the library but was breathtaking to watch when I got a little distracted from my work. I get to leave campus on Wednesday and I literally counting down the hours...I seriously cannot wait! Enjoy this past week's favorites! JMU Quarterfinals Win -- If you're foll

A College Girl's Gift Guide

It's still pretty early in December which means a lot of you are still shopping for gifts and curating your Christmas lists. Today's gift guide for college girls is hands down the most requested list of them all. I loved making this for you all because it has so many of my favorite things along with items on my must buy list. There are gifts for literally every college girl you will come across. A few are essential to all of them though. If you want to please any college gal the Nike free runs, high top converse, faux fur lined parka, Bean Boots, and bluetooth speaker are all safe bets. I find myself always reaching for these items pretty much on a daily basis. If you are aiming to gift the

Tweed Trends

Tweed is such a classic fabric it's so nice to see it finally getting some recognition in modern fashion trends. BooHoo and SheInside and so many other great brands are making affordable and super stylish tweed skirts, jackets, and dresses and I absolutely cannot get enough of it. As I was shopping for my Christmas Eve outfit, I found this great pearl button skirt from SheInside for only $15. Sadly, I don't think I'll be wearing it for Christmas Eve due to how short it is in the back but I couldn't pass it up. For $15 it's a total steal. I styled it with a black mock turtleneck crop top and my black beret from the "A New Day" Target collection. For my shoes, I again wore my Lulu block heels

Managing Stressors In & After College

Its #finalsszn which means JMU is stress city. Everyone around me is getting their notes ready, reorganizing their lectures, and writing papers. You never really understand what finals in college are like until you experience them -- seriously the amount of stress and nervousness that comes along with them is unreal. As I see all of my friends going a little bit nuts over exams and final papers it got me wondering if these last two weeks of the semester are the biggest stressors of college. Certainly these tests can't be the major result of everyones stress. I asked my Alpha Delta Pi sisters and even some of my Daily Dose of Prep readers what their biggest worries are either in or after coll

Daily Dose of Prep's 25 Days of Christmas

Christmas movies just might be one of my absolute favorite things. As much as Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, truthfully it doesn't feature some of the best Christmas movies out there. They also repeat the same 9 movies throughout the month of December. I want to watch as many holiday films as possible before I have to wait another 11 months. I spent all day yesterday brainstorming & watching some of my favorite Christmas movies to share today. Seriously, if you haven't seen some of these, you need to! Let me know what your favorite holiday movie is in the comments, if I haven't seen it, I'll get watching! Some of the best movies on here are the classics. Holiday Inn, It's a Wonderful Life

This cream tweed dress is just adorable for the holiday season, as of right now I think it might be my Christmas Eve dress! The price on this dress is unbeatable too, just $24. I love the classic, chic silhouette of the dress and the statement velvet bow so I styled it with my al
