I went to a Friendsgiving on Sunday night with a few of my friends in ADPi and was assigned to take a dessert to share with everyone. I knew that people would stick to the classic Thanksgiving desserts like Apple Pie and Pumpkin Pie so I knew I wanted to make something equally as good but a little more unique. One of my favorite sweet treats to make is Rice Krispy treats. You need three ingredients to make the classic sweet and they're very easy to make -- all around a perfect dessert on a low budget. I wanted to jazz up the classic treat to fit the festive theme so I took it to a whole new level.
-6 cups of rice cereal
-10 oz (or one package) of marshmallows
-3 tablespoons of butter
-1 tsp of vanilla extract
-one can of vanilla frosting
-toppings (chocolate chips, sprinkles, M&M's) whatever you feel like
On medium heat in a sauce pan, melt three tablespoons of butter. Once melted add 10 ounces of marshmallows. Stir continuously until melted. Make sure to keep your eye on them because if you don't stir them constantly, they can easily burn! Once melted, add vanilla extract.
Pour marshmallow and vanilla mixture into a large mixing bowl with six cups of rice cereal. Make sure the bowl is big and there is plenty of room to stir in the marshmallow. Move quickly and use a wooden spoon. To help with the stickiness, spray the spoon with some cooking spray.
Once mixed in, pour into a wax paper lined and sprayed pan. Let sit for 15 minutes before decorating.
Take the can of vanilla icing and split into three bowls. Dye them yellow, orange, and leave one white. Once dyed, microwave the three icings for 15-20 seconds. This will get them thin enough to drizzle. Pour each icing in to a Ziploc bag and sinp a tiny hole in the corner of the bag and drizzle.
If you want to add a little more decorations, while the icing is still wet, add sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, or chopped M&M's. If you are a peanut butter lover, add chopped Reese's.
This recipe is extremely simple and perfect for any get together or holiday party this season. It's versatile where you can decorate the treats with different colored icing to fit the occasion. Maybe even dip them in white chocolate and different toppings. Although it's an easy recipe it's a classic and simple delicious. It's a dessert you can make to ensure you don't return home with leftovers because everyone loves them! Happy cooking!
