What I Received for my 19th Birthday
My birthday was on Wednesday and it was such an incredible day. I started off my 19th trip around the sun with Kirsten. We met at Sugar Shack, an insanely good donut shop in Richmond, for breakfast. On my way home from breakfast, I ended up having to go to our old house to pick up the mail from the day before. It was a very nostalgic experience being there on my birthday. I decided to unlock the door and walk around the empty hallways and bedrooms and think about the past 19 years and how they unfolded in that house. It was really sad but also pretty moving. It was a nice gift to be able to reflect on my life and how blessed I have been with incredible friends, family, opportunities, and education.
After I wrapped up my emotional moment at the old house, I traveled to the new house and got ready for a day of birthday celebration. Instead of gifts, mom decided to take me to the mall and give me a budget to buy my own gifts. Since freshman year of high school, I was always one to pick out my own gifts and just wait until Christmas or my birthday to receive them. I was given $200 to spend on whatever I wanted. I immediately went to J.Crew because I knew I wanted to get some stuff that I could keep in my closet for a lifetime and J.Crew houses the most classic of clothing. I ended up purchasing 4 things which originally totaled at $220 but after negotiating and applying my student ID, I got the price for all four items to $116. I mean seriously, over half off for four items from J.Crew?! I felt like I won the lottery.
We then travelled to Kendra Scott. Honestly, I have never been a huge fan of Kendra Scott items but I heard that during your birthday month, you received half off one item of your choice. We decided to go in and take a peek and see if there was anything that caught my eye and I instantly fell in love with the Elisa Pendant necklace in Rose Quartz. I bought it for $25! What a steal!
Finally, we stopped by Lilly Pulitzer -- I work there, I had to at least pop in! The store had no customers at the moment (a rare quiet moment for the store) and as soon as we walked in it started torrentially down pouring. Mom and I waited out the storm by trying on tons of Lilly. Because it was pouring everyone was kind of stuck in stores and nobody came into Lilly for a short time. It was almost like a private shopping experience! We ended up getting a few things. I decided on a really cute romper that I kept telling myself not to buy but it was my birthday so I splurged! Mom bought an adorable shift dress that she looked amazing in! See what I purchased below and shop my gifts!
